* Educational institutions are rather limited in S'ree society. This stat roll reflects this general lack of instructional background, historical understanding, and technological sophistication. S'ree 'naturalized' to other civilizations would naturally roll that civilization's education roll at character creation.
** While social status is important to the S'ree in terms of relationships within a family, this rarely applies when traveling abroad due to their sense of self reliance and personal pride. S'ree embedded into other cultures should have their Social roll designated by the GM running the game based on circumstance.

S'ree Careers

The S'ree have relatively few career options for character creation. Warriors are present, but uncommon as social struggles that result in any amount of bloodshed among the S'ree are often fatal to both social entities. Challenges between two individuals over a matter of passion are much more common. Such duels tend to have few rules other than granting mercy to a foe that surrenders, and the limiting of the combat strictly to two individuals. Still some distrust of the 'neighbors' has given rise to a 'Guardian' profession which also takes on the responsibilities of hunting for the family's food and hunting dangerous animals that stray into family territories.

Outcasts are S'ree individuals that live off the land, especially well away from the riverbank. While generally looked down upon by the Kajeks and the River Traders, they are sometimes hired for odd jobs such as patrolling, bounty hunting, courier, and exploration.

Successful Quest Rolls grant an additional skill and mustering out roll for that term. If one fails to reenlist, Outcast may automatically be taken thereafter, up to a maximum total of 7 terms. Unlike other careers, Outcast doesn't require reenlistment a reenlistment roll (ie, natural 12 doesn't require another term in Outcast). Each 'term' is merely an arbitrary time-span in the character's life, consists of roughly 4 Imperial years and grants the S'ree 2 skill rolls, plus 1 extra roll during the first 'term'.

River Pearls and S'ree

River Pearls are the standard currency in an otherwise barter heavy society. Their occurrence is very rare in a specific type of shellfish used for food by the river families, and their appearance has been likened to an opalescent oil slick wrapped around a marble. Often, they'll be worked into pieces of jewelry or, more rarely, hoarded by a family against times of drought or other economic hardship. One average sized Clampian Pearl would initially be worth roughly 40 to 100 Imperial Credits sold offworld (once a jeweler was convinced of its nature and relative rarity). Purchasing power varies, but a general guideline for common goods and services among S'ree follows:

3 Days worth of food (fish, meal, fruits)   1 Pearl
Wicker Basket   1 Pearl
Large jug of Niss (Alcoholic beverage)   2 Pearl
Whicker Backpack   2 Pearls
Obsidian Axe   3 Pearls
Hunting Bow (Short Bow)   4 Pearls
  20 Iron Arrows   1 Pearl
Oil Lamp   5 Pearls
Press- Moss Book (Blank, 30 pages)   6 Pearls

Elgarr (Riding 'Salamander')   70 Pearls
Flintlock Pistol   100 Pearls
Black Powder (100 shots worth)   5 Pearls
Flintlock Shot (20 bullets)   1 Pearl
